Prickly Pear Holistic Veterinary Care was founded to provide compassionate, high-quality, convenient holistic veterinary care to your pets without the stress (for humans or animals!) of transporting your animals to the veterinary clinic.


Lauren Genow, DVM, CVA, CVSMT, CVCHM

Dr. Lauren Genow grew up in East Grand Rapids, Michigan and moved to Tucson in 2003. She is fluent in American Sign Language and worked as an American Sign Language Interpreter (RID CI and CT) before deciding to complete her Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science at University of Arizona. After graduating from Washington State University as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, she moved back to Tucson and founded Prickly Pear Holistic Veterinary Care.

Dr. Lauren is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA, Chi Institute, Reddick, FL), certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (VSMT, Healing Oasis Wellness Center, Sturtevant, WI), certified in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine (CVCHM, College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (CIVT)/International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS)), and she is a  Reiki Master Practitioner (Usui). She has studied Veterinary Acupuncture at Southwest University in Chongqing, China and is a member of the College of Animal Chiropractors. Currently, she is enrolled in a Professional Master Course in Veterinary Homeopathy (Pitcairn Institute of Veterinary Homeopathy). She previously served on the Board of Directors for Retired Paws, a non-profit organization that provides financial support for retired law enforcement canines. Before returning to school, Dr. Lauren was a pet owner for 10+ years so she is familiar with both sides of the pet ownership/veterinary care dynamic. She has four dogs, three cats, and two freshwater aquariums.
